The room

The ceiling fans are older than half our regulars.

We repaint the sign, never the walls. The marble tops came with the shophouse and they’ve got forty years of glass rings burnt into them — we’re not sanding those out, that’s the receipt.

Sun Hin Loong is family-run. Second generation on the kopi sock, third generation on the toast grill, and the same handful of uncles at the same tables at 8am — Mr Lim by the door with the Chinese papers, the SS2 badminton crowd who come in still sweating from the courts behind Jaya One. Nobody here calls it “community”. They call it going for kopi.

The honest problem: none of that is visible on the internet. People in SS2 scroll, see nothing, and go to the café with the good photos instead — even when ours is the better cup. So we photographed the room.

No seasonal menu, no oat milk, no laminated photos. Prices are what they are because the uncles would notice.

Kopi

Kopi-O Black, sock-filtered, sugar already in it. Say “kurang manis” if you must. RM2.20

Kopi-C Peng Table 4’s usual Evaporated milk, over ice, in the thick glass. The 3pm order. RM3.50

Teh Tarik Pulled twice at the counter, foam on top, no straw. RM2.80

Toast & eggs

Kaya Butter Toast Ask any uncle Charcoal-grilled bread, cold slab of butter, house kaya. Cut in four. RM3.80

Soft-Boiled Eggs (2) Timed, not guessed. Dark soy and white pepper on the table. RM2.50

Noodles

Curry Mee Cockles, tau pok, chicken. Sambal on the side unless you say otherwise. RM7.50

Wantan Mee (dry) Char siew from the stall two doors down, our noodles, our sauce. RM8.00

Before you come

The five things people WhatsApp us about.

Can I book a table for a group?

Yes — for six or more, WhatsApp us the day before and we’ll hold the long table at the back. Smaller groups don’t need to book, but between 8am and 9:30am on weekends you may wait ten minutes for a marble top to clear.

Where do I park?

Car park behind the row of shops — enter from the back lane off Jalan SS 2/63. Motorbike bays are right outside the corner lot. Street parking on SS 2/64 fills up by 7:30am on weekdays.

Do you take card or e-wallet?

Cash and DuitNow QR at the counter. No cards. There’s an ATM two doors down if you get caught out.

Is there anything vegetarian?

Kaya butter toast, soft-boiled eggs and all the kopi and teh are vegetarian. The curry mee and wantan mee are not — the broth and char siew both contain pork.

Can you do a bulk order for an office or a kenduri?

Toast sets and kopi travel fine in bulk — WhatsApp us two days ahead with numbers and a pickup time. We don’t deliver, but we’ll have it boxed and waiting at the counter.
